OBSERVATION

To better understand the problems, I visited Dinus Library to observe the real conditions firsthand and conducted interviews with both users and library staff. This helped uncover key pain points, user behaviors, and gaps within the existing system. Based on these insights, I quickly planned solutions by prioritizing the most critical issues focusing on integrating WordPress, SLiMS, and DSpace into a unified system, designing a one door access point, and preparing early validation strategies with users before moving into full implementation.

CHALLENGES

The Dinuslib system runs on several separate open source platforms WordPress for the main site, SLiMS for book circulation, and DSpace for academic files making the user experience fragmented and confusing. Users often struggle to access services due to the lack of integration. A few months ago, the system was also hit by an online gambling attack, raising serious security concerns. On top of that, the library has not met its yearly visitor target of 11,000, as required by national standards. Lastly, without a clear visual flow of the system, it’s hard for developers and stakeholders to stay aligned and improve the platform effectively.

RESULT

I validated the design through usability testing, using the System Usability Scale (SUS) and Single Ease Question (SEQ) methods, which resulted in a strong SUS score of 85. User feedback was overwhelmingly positive many found the system easier and more efficient to use, as reflected in an average SEQ score of 6. The final design also established a stronger foundation through a scalable and adaptable design system, setting the stage for future development. Most importantly, the redesign supports the university library's goals of increasing engagement and improving its chances of meeting national accreditation standards.
